It's Turbo Time

(Alternate title: The Speed of Lies)

I'm actually really happy with the way this turned out. I know it's quite a bit darker than what I normally do, but but I think I've finally gotten good enough to effectively try doing some more serious stuffs. (No worries - I'll never abandoned lighthearted, happy artwork. )

Anywho, I present another art trade from the Christmas dA thing. had asked for a picture of Turbo in a kart with the twins, racing. (Although on second thought, maybe I should have asked if she wanted them all racing in the same cart, or separately.... Oh yeah, but the Turbo twins are indeed there. They're... being those fast little blue objects hidden in the background.)


The long story:
This pic went through a million revisions. From the start, I'd sketched out several lighthearted, playful sketches but wasn't particularly happy with any of them. (You can see a snippet of one of my half-inked sketches here [link]) A few weeks ago I was browsing movie stills for references when the thought of going for a more moody sketch crossed my mind, and something just clicked. I know got a whole bunch of things wrong in perspective, lighting, and the car itself (the sketch got flipped, so all of the gauges are now backwards.[!]) but overall I'm pretty proud with how it turned out.

Now I'm thinking of all those Hotwheels tracks under my brothers' bed.

Note: Yes, I'm doing absolutely fine IRL. Just trying some new styles. I promise I'll do no more dark/creepy pictures for a short while.
